1. Why do we use an entrance fee approach?
Glenwood is part of the Memorial Health System, a not-for-profit corporation that exists for the sole purpose of providing health care and housing for retirement age individuals. The entrance fee is a standard approach in the industry because it gives not-for-profit organizations access to capital for construction through the sale of bonds. When you look at the entrance fee options, you will see that these plans include refundability of the entrance fee. Glenwood offers two refund plans; a 55-60% refund or a 90-95% refund.
2. How will I know when I am ready to move to a retirement community?
People of all ages move to retirement communities. The minimum age for Glenwood is 62 years. We suggest that people move while they are physically capable of making a move and mentally able to enjoy the lifestyle. We encourage you to be in charge of your own future! Sometimes we see people who will only give consideration to a retirement community when they are "ready." It is unfortunate that we must sometimes refer them to assisted living or nursing care, and they never get to enjoy the active atmosphere of independent retirement living.
3. How do I know if I can afford to live at Glenwood?
Many people ask about the costs associated with this lifestyle because they are not sure they can afford it — and they are frequently surprised at how affordable Glenwood will be. We have tools and information that you can use to compare the costs associated with retirement living. Keep in mind that many of your current costs are eliminated or lowered when living in a full-service retirement community. Among these are property taxes, utilities, home maintenance, homeowner’s insurance, cable, food and transportation costs.
4. What is "maintenance-free living?"
It is life without the hassles and the worries of maintaining a house. All exterior maintenance, interior maintenance, appliance maintenance and grounds keeping, grass cutting and leaf removal are provided as part of the monthly fee you pay. The fees also include trash removal, basic cable television, scheduled transportation, security personnel, the emergency call system and use of the community areas.
5. Will I need a car at Glenwood?
Most people who drive will bring their cars, although couples often find they can easily get along with one car. There are many interesting places close to Glenwood. However, a car is not necessary because Glenwood will provide regularly scheduled transportation.
6. "I feel uncomfortable coming into your community because I don’t want a high-pressure sales pitch."
Most people feel this way, especially if they haven’t looked into this lifestyle. We are experienced in this field and absolutely know that pressure does not work. We feel that it is our job to educate people about retirement lifestyles, especially about Glenwood, so that you can make your own decision about where you want to live.
7. What happens if my health status changes?
One of the attractions of Glenwood is the access to a variety of health services. Glenwood provides assisted living at The Pines and our residents have access to Harmar Place, if skilled nursing care is needed.
